CAMPUS-WIDE EVENT SPONSORED BY THE ANTHROPOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Of the many different organizations, community groups and educational institutions that we have visited, many harbor sizeable minority contingents, but overwhelmingly most are not owned and operated by minorities. Hence, our visit to Coppin State University as one of the nation’s 107 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) was quite a pleasant change of pace.
While we have indeed visited other HBCUs such as Howard University and Morgan State University, this event was different in terms of the event’s size, energy and scale.
What was probably most memorable was that although our official presentation was slotted for 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm during the week before finals, the crowd obliged as went into “overtime” and ended our presentation at 8:45 pm. Even more telling about how The Minority Reporter experience resonated with the Coppin State community, we did not actually leave the presentation venue until approximately 10:45, as we still showed additional video clips and entertained additional questions and dialogue.
